The AVG Rescue CD is essentially a portable version of AVG AntiVirussupplied through Linux distribution. It can be used in the form of a bootable CD or bootable USB flash drive to recover your computer when the system cannot be loadednormally, such as after an extensive or deeprooted virus infection. In short, the AVG Rescue CD enables you to fully remove infections from an otherwise inoperable PC andrender the system bootable again.
Apart from the usual AVG functions (malware detection and removal, updates from internet or external device, etc.), the AVG Rescue CDalso contains the following set of administration tools:
* Midnight Commander a twopanel file manager
* Windows Registry Editor simple registry editor formore experienced users
* TestDisk powerful hard drive recovery tool

Using the ISO to create a bootable CD/DVD
The downloadedISO file can easily be used to create a CD or DVD with AVG Rescue CD. You will need an application for burning a CD/DVD (e.g. Nero, imgburn, BurnAware Free). Do not use theWindows builtin burning feature, as it will not create a bootable disk.
In the burning application, choose option Burn Image file (ISO file or similar option). Insertthe medium in the drive and confirm the burning. No special settings are needed.
Using the RAR/ZIP archive to create a USB bootable device
To create a USB flashdrive variant of AVG Rescue CD, you will need to do the following:
* Extract the archive downloaded from AVG web directly on the removable USB flash drive. It hasto be extracted in the root folder of the disk do not use a subfolder.
* Run the extracted makeboot.bat batch file. When started it will overwrite the boot record.Make sure you are using the desired USB flash drive, otherwise it can make your Windows unbootable!
* In the opened window press any key to prepare the USB flashdrive.
* After this process is finished (message will be displayed) you can close the window.
